Basic Tutorial: How to Reference a Journal
What is a Journal?
-
A publication of a collection of individually written articles bound together and published at regular intervals.
-
The articles that go into an “Academic Journal” are refereed by a group of lecturers who are experts of the subject. This is sometimes called a peer reviewed journal.
-
Trade journals are often produced with a specific interest group in mind and do not often include references in them.
Much of the information you will need to include when referencing a journal can be found on the Contents Page. The Contents Page can appear in one of three places:
- the front cover,
- the back cover, or
- within the first two or three pages inside the front cover.
