Intellectual Rights

This is a phrase that describes the protection given to the creator/s of a piece of intellectual material such as an idea or a design.
From the creators point of view, everyone who creates these things has a 'moral' automatic right in the type of material that they produce. By using the copyright symbol they can claim ownership of the intellectual property. This protection can be strengthened by them registering the design, copyright or a patent .The creator has the right to transfer ownership of the IPR to another person or grant other people the right to copy without charging for it. From the point of view of those who wish to reproduce all or part of the intellectual property they will have to seek the permission of the copyright holder or other intellectual property. If this is not done then there will be a breach of a copyright and as a consequence legal action taken.
